5 Reasons Women Indonesia Not financially independent

25 April, 2010 (14:14) | Uncategorized | By: r088yj

Survey shows half of Indonesian women do not have a financial plan. Whereas a woman is ‘Director of Finance’ that has the most important position in the family.

In fact the emancipation of women has now become a thing undeniable. Currently, Kartini’s spirit is reflected through the role of Indonesian women’s movement in the form of rights and justice that are expressed in economic life, social and political, but to financial problems, arguably the weaker sex does not have competence commensurate.

Citibank Indonesia survey results in the Citi Fin-Q (Financial Quotient) in 2009 which involved half the women respondents indicated that Indonesian women do not have a financial plan. Most of which already have plan then not necessarily carry financial plan.

Why Indonesian woman has not been financially independent? Here are five main reasons not yet financially independent woman, as quoted from a press release Citibank, Tuesday (20/04/2010).

1. Lulled Asmara

In general, when entering the stage of marriage, the woman invited the man to take responsibility about money. Many women are taught, and even aspire to rely solely on their partner. Men are often assumed to have more ability to generate earnings and survive in difficult conditions (survival), while women do not.

In some customs or traditions that adopted in Indonesia, women are required to by only the husband in exchange for protection from the financial aspect. This dependency makes women are not ready to lose their jobs if their spouse, have an accident, or death – thus causing a wife should care for and raise children alone.

For today’s life, women increasingly demanded to be independent and support each other in family life.

2. Too Young To Saving

At a young age, women generally do not put priority to saving for the future. Women are more concerned with spending to improve the appearance and get the things that she did not have the time of childhood. This trend eventually leads to compulsive shopping habits. Over time, total expenditure increased and more difficult to create the habit of saving.

It is best to teach the younger generation the value of money is by providing the opportunity for them to start work after the age of teenagers and getting used to manage personal finances.

3. Tempted Shopping and debt

Advertising and promotion for beauty, fashion and household spending increase women’s tastes. This makes the women feel that they have control over expenditure, but unfortunately this compulsive spending more and dig deeper into debt.

4. Success intimidated

Although women’s income levels tend to be lower than men, women continue to struggle in the world of work. But success in the world of work can bring a rift in the relationship of the household.

Women who have higher incomes than couples, agile handling and controlling spending household money is often considered to be aggressive and not feminine in the eyes of fellow men and women. To maintain the household relationship, there are some women who give up their financial rights for the sake of the family unit.

5. Driven to Help Others

Women always give priority to their husbands, children, parents, family members and even those who can not afford. Helping others gives a sense of benefit and pleasure in doing good for others. Sometimes women forget themselves, so spending other people went ahead and this is very dangerous if he and his family were in debt.

To continue the spirit of Kartini Indonesian women to create self-sufficiency, then the woman should pay attention to financial management. Necessary to set spending priorities in the scale of everyday life, so that as much as possible emphasis on function rather than just prestige.

Women also need to plant the habit of saving and investing, setting up an emergency fund and a balanced life with emphasis on personal and family needs.

Not limited to financial independence does not depend on the couple, but also understands that women can manage financially independent.
